Volunteer Support Worker, T.E.A.C.H.


Internal/External Posting

Part Time: September 2015 - June 2016, up to 30 hours per month

Compensation: $15.27/hour


Planned Parenthood Toronto is a fully accredited community health centre that provides primary health care services to youth 13 to 29 years as well as health promotion programming, education, training and research to improve the health and well being of Toronto’s diverse communities. We are currently seeking aVolunteer Support Worker for our Teens Educating and Confronting Homophobia (T.E.A.C.H.) program to work part time, on an as needed basis, from September 2015 to June 2016.


General Responsibilities:

The Volunteer Support Worker is responsible for providing orientation, feedback, support and appreciation to T.E.A.C.H. volunteers during workshops in schools, shelters, group homes and other community settings. The Volunteer Support Worker’s areas of responsibility are monitored by the T.E.A.C.H. Coordinator.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the program’s volunteers in workshop settings and provide support, appreciation, and feedback on their performance
  • Co-facilitate some debriefing, on-going education, and update meetings as required
  • Provide ongoing feedback to program staff on volunteer performance
  • Co-facilitate anti-homophobia peer training as needed
  • Collect and submit data on volunteer and workshop activities
  • Document and report any workshop related incidents to the T.E.A.C.H. Coordinator
  • Assist in outreach activities as needed
  • Participate in the training and orientation of new volunteers as needed
  • Perform other duties from time to time as related to the job and based on agency needs
  • Support the T.E.A.C.H. Coordinator in accomplishing goals and objectives of the program



  • Secondary School diploma with 1-2 years experience OR 2-3 years experience in a similar role
  • Experience working with youth volunteers in delivering anti-homophobia workshops in school and/or community settings
  • Familiarity with Planned Parenthood Toronto’s  T.E.A.C.H. Program
  • Experience and commitment to working with LGBTQ youth and youth from diverse communities from an anti-discrimination perspective
  • Experience working with and supporting volunteers an asset
  • Commitment to pro-choice philosophy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency and experience working in a computerized environment
  • Available for day time hours on weekdays
  • Understanding and support of peer education and volunteerism models
  • Skills and experience in providing supportive and constructive feedback to youth as part of their ongoing education and development
  • Skills and experience in anti-homophobia workshop facilitation from an anti-oppression perspective in a variety of community-based settings
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity goals and principles, to sexual and reproductive rights, to being youth positive, LGBTQ positive and sex positive and to being inclusive of diverse sexual and gender identities.
  • Commitment to working from a community development perspective
  • Commitment to working cooperatively in a community-based setting as part of an inter-disciplinary team.
