Summer Jobs - Good Advice

Students looking for summer jobs are facing lots of competition in an extremely tough job market. On the other hand, students accept minimum wage jobs for short periods of time, so employers needing seasonal labour, would rather hire students than individuals looking for full time employment.

The article (website below) has good advice from Karen Schaffer, a youth employment specialist, who has written 2 books for young people searching for a job. (Hire Power & The Job of Your Life)

The advice focuses on common sense suggestions such as sharpening job skills and effective job searching. Karen also concentrates on how to take advantage of all job hunting possibilities available, so employers will think of you when particular opportunities come up.

University and college career centres are open throughout the summer.
