The Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks is looking for second language participants who speak English as a Second Language to help with a research project on language assessment. Please circulate the attached information to your networks. Participants must be available for 2 days – 1 day in the Fall and 1 day in the Winter.  Note that this recruitment initiative is for individuals NOT taking English language training.  The information is below and a flyer is attached.

First testing date: Saturday, November 14, 2015.
Second testing date: Saturday, Saturday, March 5, 2016.
You must be available to attend BOTH sessions.

8:00am – 5:00pm. You must be available the entire day.

Mohawk College, Fennell Campus, Hamilton, ON L8N 3T2

Event Type:
Testing Session. Skills to be tested include Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.


  • 18 years of age or older
  • born outside of Canada
  • first language is not English
  • have elementary, intermediate or advanced level English skills
  • currently not enrolled in any English language training
  • able to attend both testing session


As a thank you, participants will receive a:

  • $50 Loblaws gift card for attending the first testing session.
  • $100 Loblaws gift card for attending the second testing session.

*Volunteers must complete all components of the test (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) in order to receive a gift card.

They are not testing the individual and no results will be given; however it provides participants with the opportunity to practice a variety of test questions in a test setting.
