Summer Student – Event Coordinator

Social Services Network requires a Summer Student – Event Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

The Event Coordinator is committed to:

  • Maintain all Event coordination management skills with the ability to organize and meet deadlines.
  • Plan and implement all community events of related to the Social Services Network and acting as the lead and direct the project.
  • Establishing the project framework and timelines, overseeing and managing all aspects of the project in coordination with Program Managers and Coordinators.
  • Conduct regular feedback sessions with Volunteers of all programs analyzing satisfaction and utilization data and prepare reports
  • Plan and implement additional tasks with Executive Director related to SSN’s Fundraising part.
  • Deliver all aspects of program and supervises all active Volunteers.
  • Ensure that programming is effective, accessible as well as age and culturally appropriate.
  • Ensure the allied parts are in place such logistic in each and every SSN event
  • All activities carried out will have clear outcomes and must be approved in advance by the Program Manager;
  • Assist the Program Manager on budgeting part with all project related events.
  • Support planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating programs, special events and     special    activities identified by the Executive Director and Program Managers.

Qualifications:

  • A University or Community College student currently studying special events management, community development, fundraising and/or marketing.
  • Experience in event coordination
  • Ability to design, write and prepare promotional materials
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a small team of staff and volunteers
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, as required
  • A valid driver’s license is an asset

This is a part-time position for 8 weeks and 30 hours per week beginning immediately and ending by end of August
Salary:  $11.25  per hour

Please note: Only students who are intending to return to school on a full time during the next academic year will eligible.

Events Assistant - Summer Student

Summer Student Position: 35 hrs/week

The Peel HIV/AIDS Network (PHAN) is committed to serving diverse people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to decreasing the transmission of new infections through education, support, advocacy and community engagement.

 

The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with other staff and volunteers, the Events Assistant will assist the agency to increase awareness of PHAN’s events and activities within the general public and specific communities – primarily within the Peel Region. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planing and implementation of community events and activities that promote the agency mission and mandate
  • Assist in the development of engaging outreach materials and content including presentation displays, multi-media content for the agency websites and other social media platforms
  • Work with volunteers and other staff to plan and implement events and outreach activities
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of PHAN’s annual Walk event
  • Review and update PHAN’s outreach resources, community partners and community events listings
  • Participate in outreach activities at various community events
  • Participate in PHAN meetings and trainings as required
  • Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures and legislation governing PHAN
  • Other related duties as required

 

Qualification and Skills:

  • Completing a post-secondary education preferably in Event Planning, Public Relations, or a related field with the intention to return to school in September
  • Excellent communication skills (written, spoken, comprehension)
  • Demonstrate creative and forward thinking
  • High level of comfort engaging with diverse communities and issues
  • Experience with public speaking and giving presentations
  • Familiarity utilizing social media apps
  • Experience developing vlogs, blogs, podcasts, and/or other multi-media content
  • Good understanding of community development. Interest in further developing this knowledge
  • Experience volunteering and/or working with volunteers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience working in a team environment
  • Knowledge of the local community (Peel Region)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HIV/AIDS and related issues. Interest in further developing knowledge in this area.
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience of applying Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression Principles



This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs and requires that applicants must,

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible);
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

 

Salary: $14-$16.00 per hr

Commitment: 35 hours/week for 8 weeks starting between June 27th and July 4th, 2016

Online Communications Assistant

The Peel HIV/AIDS Network (PHAN) is a non-profit, community organization founded in 1993. We are committed to serving diverse people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and to decreasing the transmission of new HIV infections in Peel Region through education, support, advocacy and community engagement.

 

The Position

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with other staff and volunteers, the Online Communications Assistant will assist the agency to strengthen social media practices and to increase our communication and engagement with the general public and specific communities – primarily within the Peel Region.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of a plan for integrating social media into PHAN’s communication with key stakeholders
  • Research and recommend practices and policies that support an enhanced web/social media presence
  • Increase PHAN’s visibility and engagement on various social media platforms and apps (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
  • Assist in the development of multi-media content for the agency websites and other social media platforms
  • Work with volunteers and other staff to plan and implement communication activities
  • Contribute to monthly e-Newsletter and help identify strategies for increasing subscriptions Support the development of media tools (media releases, advisories and other communication materials)
  • Review and update PHAN’s communication resources and contact lists
  • Participate in PHAN meetings and trainings as required
  • Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures and legislation governing PHAN
  • Other related duties as required

 

Qualification and Skills:

  • Completing a post-secondary education preferably in focused in online marketing, digital communications or a related field with the intention to return to school in September
  • Excellent communication skills (written, spoken, comprehension)
  • Demonstrate creative and forward thinking
  • High level of comfort and familiarity utilizing social media apps and content management systems
  • Experience developing video, blogs, podcasts, and/or other multi-media content
  • Good understanding of social media strategies and tactics. Interest in further developing this knowledge
  • Experience volunteering and/or working with volunteers
  • Competence utilizing word processing and design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience working in a team environment
  • Knowledge of the local community (Peel Region)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HIV/AIDS and related issues. Interest in further developing knowledge in this area.
  • Good time management and organizational skills

Creating Opportunities for Homeless Youth

 

Eva’s Initiatives is an innovative organization that works locally and nationally to prevent, reduce and end youth homelessness. Eva’s Initiatives operates three specialized shelter facilities, Eva’s Place, Eva’s Satellite and Eva’s Phoenix, and operates a robust national program.  Eva’s Phoenix integrates transitional housing with employment and training opportunities for homeless youth. We are currently looking to add to our vibrant staff team by filling the following position:

 

Life Skills Coordinator

This is an 8 week, Non-Union, Canada Summer Jobs-funded position

Position Summary:

As part of the Youth Support Programs team, the Life Skills Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of Life Skills Workshops designed to provide youth with the skills required to develop a high level of understanding with financial literacy, interpersonal skills, and personal care. The Life Skills Coordinator will deliver experiential, interactive workshops through a series of sequential modules. The incumbent will facilitate workshops at the Eva’s Phoenix location, and will be responsible for ongoing evaluation and improvements to the workshop modules.

The Life Skills Coordinator will contribute to the overall team approach of the agency, the Youth Support Programs team, organizational planning, program development and implementation, and monitoring and evaluation. The Life Skills Coordinator reports to the Manager of Youth Support Programs at Eva’s Phoenix, with some accountability to the Program Managers at Eva’s Place and Eva’s Satellite.

This is a 40 hour per week, non-unionized position provided through the 2016 Canada Summer Jobs Program. (Employing students who are registered to return to/enter school in the fall of 2016)

Qualifications

  • Students enrolled in the human services field or equivalent
  • Experience in facilitating workshops
  • Understanding and sensitivity towards to the issues affecting homeless youth
  • Dynamic group work and workshop facilitation skills, especially in the area of youth leadership development
  • Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational, time management, project management, report writing and data collection skills
  • Possession of a valid “G” Driver’s license an asset with clean 3-year abstract and proof of insurance
  • Ability to work cooperatively with community partners such as funders, social organizations and individuals to create and implement effective programming
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • A self-starter, with the ability to manage competing priorities in an ever-changing work environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with at-risk youth from various ethno-cultural groups with a strong passion to work as part of a diverse team
  • Creative and flexible with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Successful clearance of vulnerable sector police reference check
