Driving

Traffic jams along the street in Tehran, Iran. More than 3 million vehicles are on the roads in the

Iran has one of the highest rates of road traffic accidents worldwide. The Iranians have dangerous driving habits that causes injuries and, sometimes, even mortality. Every year, over 20,000 people are killed and 800,000 people are injured in road crashes, with men comprising 75% of the figure, and mostly in the age group 25-40. The highest rates of traffic-related injuries in the same period were in the province of Tehran more than the other cities. There are many reasons for this like improper training, crowded streets, high population, etc.

While, in Canada, the number of road accidents is much lower than in Iran. Unlike Iran, in Canada, we have proper training for learners who want to drive, open wider streets and roads. In Canada, drivers pay more attention to traffic signs, which is important for avoiding accidents. Iran should follow Canada’s model to lower the accident rate. Recently, in Iran, they raised the fines so drivers are forced to observe traffic regulations. They also need to make it a requirement to take proper driving training courses to make sure people know how to drive well before going on the road. I hope that all this will lower the rate of accidents in Iran.
