English

colourful letters spelling out Learning English

Learning English in my home country was definitely different than learning English in a native speaker country like Canada. I studied English literature for four years, and I used to listen and read more than speak. I just listened to the instructors when they spoke English and some of them had awful accents, I didn’t want to sound like them!

During the lectures, I spoke my language with my friends and outside the lectures no practicing of English at all. By the time I felt that I was losing the English language, I went into self-learning mode by watching movies, listening and singing songs and memorizing new vocabulary. In Canada, where the native speakers are, there is no choice but to speak English. Therefore, my speaking skill has been developing along with the other skills as well. I speak English with my doctor, drivers, librarians and people in the parks or streets. I read English everywhere I see it, I listen to my kid’s teacher and the security guards in the building. I developed my English skills by dealing with others, but I faced a problem in writing-it was (and is) a challenge. As soon as I start attending the online LINC school, I have learned a lot, and I have made progress in each skill, especially in writing skill.

Until this moment, I am still learning to achieve my aims, and I will complete studying the English language until it becomes an integral part of me.
