Environmentalism

Stockholm, Sweden. 12 April, 2019. Climate activists joining 16-year-old Swedish Greta Thunberg for

Greta Thunberg is a hero for our climate. She and other young people strike in Sweden, along with a host of other countries, in massive worldwide climate strikes and walk outs. Greta has rallied young people to demand changes. They try to make people and politicians understand our actions are destroying the nature system. They also know it is not a lack of solutions holding us back, but a lack of political will. Scientists have already warned through many panels and papers about climate change. Moreover, they want to say we have little time to address the crisis. Conversely, politicians see fossil fuel as a way to boost short term economic growth. Politicians say that they are doing their best, but changes won’t happen overnight. Fossil fuel executives say that they are reducing emissions from their operations but ignore emissions from burning their products. On the other hand, people feel threatened by a young women’s truth, so threatened that they stoop to personal attacks. They can do what they want. Greta’s message is indisputable. Every day we fail to act on climate crisis and are in deep denial about its seriousness. We owe it to the future generations, and we must get serious about changes needed to resolve the crisis. Young people like Greta are drawing the attention to an issue that has been ignored for political and economic reasons. The best prize we can give them is recognition of our need to live within our means on this small, blue planet.
