Travel (Outside of Canada)

Evening view of the building of the National Library of Belarus in Minsk

Belarus is a small country situated in Eastern Europe, between Poland and Russia. It is a country with traditions and habits adopted from both Russia and Europe. This is why I found the country to be so unique.

On arriving in Belarus first thing that you see is a big poster saying “I love Belarus”. After spending three weeks in Minsk I began to appreciate the posters meaning. It was an amazing trip!

We visited a lot of places and did lots of sightseeing. Some of the places that stand out are: the National Library of Belarus – a giant cube that lights up at night and has an observation deck on top with amazing views of Minsk; “Dudutki” – an open air museum, set up as an old village; Nezvizh Castle - where you can try homemade cheese with freshly baked bread that was OMG yummy; Victory Square and Upper City with its historic building and quant cafés. There was a lot more to see but it will have to wait till next time.

What must be mentioned too is the food. Belarus is famous for its draniki (thick potato pancakes), kolduny, kletski (dumplings), mushroom soup and kolbassa. With most dishes being made from potatoes. I did not think that potatoes could be used in so many dishes!

Also, I want to mention the nature in Belarus. Tall, strong, healthy trees were welcoming us, waiving to us a hello and good –bye. Rich and healthy forests where every single breath seemed to relax you and make you forget all your troubles.

Belarus won`t disappoint you with its nature, things to see, cuisine and entertainment. You will always find that some special event is happening in one side of the city or another, like hockey, a concert or a festival. You definitely would not be bored in this beautiful country or leave hungry! Everything was breathtaking and I know that one day I will come to visit Belarus again.
