Winter 2015

Canada

Sudbury street with water tower

I have been living in Sudbury, Ontario, for two and a half years now. Sudbury is the largest city in Northern Ontario. Living here has its pros and cons. The pros for me is that living here is very peaceful. There isn’t much traffic, and people have a more relaxed life. Rents and food are cheaper than in Toronto. It is a bilingual city. Most people here can speak French and English. Another good thing about Sudbury is that the people are very friendly and helpful.

Sudbury has many lakes so if you are the kind of person that likes to be in contact with nature, it is perfect for you but unfortunately that's not me. I find Sudbury pretty boring, there is not too much to do here if you are an outgoing person like me. Winter is too long and too cold. You could get a temperature of -40 C in the month of February, and summer is hot and humid.

There are not too many social things to do. I mean places like theatre, museums, etc. There are a few restaurants but it has become expensive to go now and there is not a big variety of them. Most of the people here go camping in summer. Some of them have trailers in front of a lake, or they go fishing. And, in winter they go with their snow vehicles into the bushes. I think they do it for the ride, but really, I don't understand what they are looking out there in winter.

People here hunt and some of them eat what they hunt. They even make moose and bear sausages which I would never want to try.

In conclusion, I would say, that it may not be a perfect city for me; however, I feel very lucky to be living here because of all the good things about it that I have mentioned. My love for this city is much stronger than the hate and I wish it all the best!
