English

African boy studying with classmates. Group of multi-ethnic students working on college assignments

I would like to share my experience in Canada. When I came to Canada, I had a hard time learning English. I studied in my country through my mother language, but in Canada the main language is English. International students should learn English and it should be mandatory, because we need to speak in English here. So, I went to school to learn English as a Second language. In Canada, the teaching system is different from my country. They assessed my English levels such as Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading. After that, they graded our level. According to our level, they advised to join the class. In my class, all were international students with different language. Our class teacher explained everything in English. We learned how to pronounce the words and vocabulary too.

The teacher taught through some group works, presentation and some games. Every student should participate in the programme. We should study a year for one level. After that, we should sit the examination, if we pass, we can move to the next level. We improved our English skills and made a lot of friends. Through this class, we actually improved our English and we could now have a good conversation with other people without any hesitation.

In beginning, we struggled to manage with our daily life, but after learning English, we could handle everything on our own.
