Winter 2015

Seasonal

Man with a snow shovel on the trails

Since the first week of October, we have had non-stop snow here in the Yukon. Usually, we have our first snowfall in October, but the temperature rises again, and the snow disappears, but not this year. After the first snowfall this year, the snow didn't go away. Not only that, but the snow didn't stop falling for days in a row. Of course, this happened at the weekend and the snowfall looked so pretty from my window, but I never gave a second thought as to where the snow was going or how much of it there was. By the Monday morning, I saw where the snow was and, of course, it was right there mounted outside of my house. When I tried to open the front door, it was impossible and my only option was to check the back door, which opens from the inside. I had to jump over my fence, dig through the snow looking for the shovel, and start to make a path to get the main entrance clear. Of course, I was late for work at this point and my cell phone was inside my house, nice and toasty, not like me (wet and cold). After an hour I finally got the main entrance clear, grabbed my cell phone and went off to work.

In the afternoon, when I returned home, I spent three hours shoveling my driveway. At the end of the day, my whole body was numb and cold, but this was not the end of my adventure with the snow. The next day, we had very heavy snow all night and all day and, at the end of the day, I was left with 35 cm of snow, white and bright, waiting for me.

Happy Snowfall to You!
