Winter 2015

Seasonal

ornaments

The winter is finally here so as the most magical time of the year I have some memories when I was a kid myself, waiting for it from the day when the first snow was lying on the ground. I also remember the smell of New Year and Christmas; it was the flavor of Christmas tree and juicy tangerines. My grandfather used to bring the tree from the woods and its aroma filled the whole home. We took out all of the old boxes with decorations from the high shelf, and after I could spend hours just scrutinizing it. There was a box with the lights called “The Moscow lights”; they looked just like the street lights from the Old Moscow City. Some ball ornaments have been in our family for generations and if you listen to them carefully you could hear how they are telling you the stories of your ancestors. And of course, the culmination of these magical days was the first day of New Year when I woke up and rushed in my pajamas to the Christmas tree to see what presents I have got from Grandfather Frost. I was always surprised at how he could know what I was interested in that moment of my life. I am so grateful to my mom and my grandparents who made those days so filled with magic and fairy tale. Many years came by, but I still love to decorate the Christmas tree with our family ornaments, because they bring so many memories to me when my life was so easy and carefree.
