The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean nation that shares the island of La Hispaniola with Haiti to the west. Dominican Republic was conquered in 1492.

Our country is very traditional because we celebrate our Independence Day on February 27. In different towns we can see parades with people dressed up in traditional clothes in the colours red, white and blue. On Independence Day, the military march on the street while the people celebrate outside of their homes.

Dominican Republic is one of the most beautiful of the Caribbean islands. In my country we have the most beautiful beaches, rivers, lakes and natural environment. Dominican Republic has access to two bodies of water: the Atlantic Ocean in the north and the Caribbean Sea in the east and south. The city of Punta Cana is where the two waters meet. The beaches are very common for tourists all year long, but the Dominican people only like to go to the beach in the summer.

Many tourists come to my country to visit our beaches, stay in the resorts, explore the monuments, and taste our typical Dominican food. Some of the typical local foods that tourists enjoy are fresh fruits, like papaya or pineapple, rice, beans and plantain. There is a traditional dish in the Dominican Republic called The Dominican Flag which includes rice, beans, chicken, green salad, avocado, and fried plantain. It is very common to see this food in a Dominican home.

Dominican people are very hospitable. They like to host other people for food or share coffee together. It’s very normal for most of the Dominicans to invite you for lunch or have a cup of coffee to connect with you and have a nice conversation. Dominicans value people and they never go in a hurry.

No matter where you go in the Dominican Republic you will always see the culture and the history through the people and the environment, and you will feel welcome and want to return one day again.
