Travel (Outside of Canada)

old wooden church in Western Ukraine

Once my husband and I decided to celebrate the New Year in different places. We planned early on our trip where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. We made our plan and added our wishes during the year. In 2020 we planned a trip to the Western Ukraine and Lviv.

On the first day of our trip we arrived in Lviv on December 30th. We checked into a hotel and immediately went for a walk around the city. It was a cool evening, snow was falling and the city’s festival of lights was especially beautiful. We went towards the square where the New Year tree was standing. A festive atmosphere reigned in the city, a New Year tree flaunted in the center of the square and a fair was opened with many beautiful stalls in which we bought Glintwein and Ukrainian delicacies. On the square, one could meet Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden, as well as many fairy-tale heroes. It was possible to ride a sleigh pulled by beautiful horses. Ukrainian music sounded everywhere. It was fantastic to be there. We also took many gorgeous photos. We were lucky that we lived 15 minutes away from the city center and could return to the hotel by foot, inhaling the aroma of New Year's baking with vanilla and cinnamon.

On the second day, we walked a lot around the city and looked at the stunning architecture of Lviv, we also visited the museums. In the evening, we went to a restaurant. It was an adorable Ukrainian restaurant in a luxurious classic style with live music. The musician masterfully played the violin and approached each table. It was an unforgettable evening!

The next day we went to the small town Beregove in the Western Ukraine. This is a colorful town bordering Romania. It's famous for its cuisine, breathtaking nature, water springs, SPA complexes with thermal water and delicious mushrooms. The inhabitants of this town are very friendly and hospitable. We bought several handmade gifts and fragrant dried mushrooms from there.

Three days in Beregove flew by unnoticed and it was time to return home. In a week of our vacation we had a great time and got unforgettable impressions. We were satisfied with everything we saw and did. All the memories and things that I saw are priceless.
