My family moved to Canada in 2011. First we started to get our identification, for example, health cards, social insurance cards, etc. I understood all these cards which were easy to get from Service Ontario, but a driver’s licence was different.
In Ontario, they have three levels of graduated licensing, G1, G2 and G. Since I didn’t have any driver’s licence in my country, I needed to start at the beginning. First, I had to study all the road knowledge and information and then I took a written test for my G1. After that I went to a driving school to learn how to drive on the road. I didn’t like to drive and driving on the road was more pressure for me. Finally I took the class for almost 30 hours and passed the first level road test and got the G2 licence in 2012.
After that I forgot that to get the Full G| licence I should pass the second level road test within five years, otherwise I would have to start all over again, beginning with the written test. When I received a letter from Service Ontario notifying me to renew the G2 licence after four years, I was shocked that I needed to learn how to drive again, because I had never driven after obtaining my G2 licence. Thus, I went back to the driving school and learned all of the driving skills again. In the end I took the road test twice and passed my Full G licence.
I understand Canada is one of the largest countries in the world and that 80 percent of Canadians use a car to go to work and for shopping. Therefore, the driving laws and rules are most important for Canadians to follow and keep safety on the road. Now that I have told you my story, I hope it will be easier for you to get your driver’s licence.
