Travel (Outside of Canada)

Woman standing beside marzipan figure of Michael Jackson

I traveled in Hungary in 2007.

I want to talk about ? little fairy town called Szentendre. Szentendre is a Hungarian town which is located 20 km north-west of Budapest. It is a city of artists and artisans. It seems that the city was designed for tourists. There is a museum about which few people know. This is the marzipan Museum. The marzipan Museum is unique in the world.

Already, at the entrance you see it is absolutely free to taste the marzipan. Also, you can see how to make marzipan.

All exhibits are made of marzipan. There are are life-sized figures of Princess Diana and Michael Jackson, and also marzipan tables with a marzipan lace tableclothes, marzipan flowers and cartoon characters. It is necessary to visit the marzipan Museum. It is a marzipan dreamland for children and for adults. Also, you can buy marzipan souvenirs for gifts.

The marzipan has a very delicious sweetness. It is a mixture of ground almonds and icing sugar.

In Canada, I met a Ukranian woman named Tatiana Momot. She is a musician. She plays the violin. She invited me to her home. Tatiana offered me marzipan. She cooked marzipan herself.

Tatiana's marzipan had the same taste as the Hungarian marzipan! She used different ingredients, and different technology, but it had the same taste! Unbelievable!

Below is the recipe from Tatiana Momot.

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons of yeast
  • 50 grams of butter
  • 3 cups flour
  • one bag of vanilla sugar

Filling:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 200 grams of butter

Directions:

  1. Kneed the above ingredients to make a dough.
  2. Grind the sugar and butter for the filling.
  3. Roll dough into a 0.5 cm thick circle.
  4. Spread filling over dough.
  5. Roll dough into a cylinder shape.
  6. Cut into 5-6 cm pieces.
  7. Pinch together one side of the roll and place on parchment paper on a baking tray.
  8. Bake at 400 F until ready.

However, my advice is: travel to Hungary and eat Hungarian marzipan!
