Travel (Outside of Canada)

Hot Spring resort town of Jozankei, Hokkaido, Japan near Sapporo.

The most memorable vacation of my life must be the vacation in Hokkaido, which is an island located in the north of Japan. I went to Hokkaido in winter with a few of my friends because I had never seen the snow. It was the first time we planned a trip and travelled by ourselves. When we arrived in Sapporo, which is the capital of Hokkaido, we collected a lot of information, such as a train timetable from the tourist information centre in the airport.

Although we missed the Sapporo snow festival, Sapporo still has many places to visit like Clock Tower, which is a symbol of Sapporo, Susukino, which is an entertainment district with many gift shops. We also found a famous lane where they serve ramen, a Japanese dish, which consists of wheat noodles served in meat broth, often flavoured with soy sauce or miso, and with toppings, such as sliced pork, dried seaweed and green onions. We tasted many delicious foods, such as crab, sea urchin, salmon roe, etc. in the curb market.

We went to Otaru, which is a small harbour town not far from Sapporo by train. There is a beautiful canal area and Noboribetsu Onsen, which has many types of hot springs and is the most famous hot spring resort. And then skiing, which was the most important part in our schedule, because we had never skied before, except for my boyfriend, who today is my husband.

The last and the most remarkable thing about this vacation was that this vacation changed my life as we made a decision to get married.
