I recall an individual who suffered from an addiction to the card games.

The regrettable result of his addiction was that he spent most of his income trying to win back losses.

His addiction caused a great deal of hardship to his family of a wife and 3 children. He went to counseling sessions, but this did not cure his illness. He lost his job and his wife and family and ended up living on the street.

Legalized gambling is NOT an acceptable policy. It is a method government uses to raise money (instead of taxes) without regard for the social consequences.

The poorer segments of society are the ones that develop an addiction to gambling mainly due to economic desperation. The government advice of “Know our limit and stay within it" is hypocritical

The consequences of legalized gambling are the greater impoverishment of the poor, excessive use of alcohol, family deprivation, and ultimate breakdown.

I don’t but I know someone who bought the same lottery numbers for 5 years (or more) and never experienced a worthwhile win. The chances of winning are millions to one.
