Winter 2015

about me on post-it note tacked to cork board

I was born in Venezuela, but I moved to Chile in 2005 because my husband, who is from Mexico, worked there before we met. We married in Venezuela, then we returned to Chile, where we lived for three years. Later in 2008, I moved again but this time to Canada, specifically Montreal, also because my husband’s work gave him an  opportunity to get a contract to work in Canada.

Canada is a great country as it is totally different than mine starting from the seasons. Each one is beautiful. I like fall and winter, but I admit I would like the winter a little shorter! However, that doesn’t change my love and gratitude to this wonderful country with multicultural cities, social security, respect for the laws, and human rights.

Here I can improve my French and now I am learning English. My experience with ESL English began in 2015 when I took a beginner’s course at Lambton College in Sarnia. Since then I have been studying in my free time until now when I finally have my place in the LINC Home Study program. For me the biggest challenge is speaking well in English and French that will give me the feeling of being integrated and confident through well expressed ideas.

I live in Sarnia with my family. I’m raising two boys, aged 3 and 7 with my husband. I studied a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources in Venezuela. I took this course because I needed to learn a lot of grammar, writing and pronunciation in English. This is my first English online course. One of my long term goals is to have a second career to become a Social Worker because I like to motivate people and help them reach their goals, and improve their well-being for their family and society. I feel very grateful that Canada gives me this opportunity.
