photo of ferry dock in BC

It’s been almost a year since I came to Canada. l still remember my first day here. When I walked out from the terminal at the airport, my husband was eagerly waiting at the entrance. I met some of his friends and, then, we walked out from the airport. Everything was new and exciting! I, instantly, fell in love with my new country, Canada; everything was different here than my home country, but I liked it. First, I noticed the weather –It was beautiful, not too cold or too hot, and, then I was stunned looking at the big houses here. In my home country, India, all houses are made of concrete but here I noticed these were wooden houses, but beautifully designed. I loved the sight of tall buildings, trees, wider streets and people. It was simply amazing!

Since our house was on the island, we had to catch the ferry to the island. On the ferry, we decided to eat something. I had some soup and I can still remember its taste—it tasted like ‘dal’ which is basically the name for lentil soup in my country. I loved it! We were on the ferry for about an hour and half hour and I enjoyed looking at all the beautiful sceneries around me. Finally, we entered the island called ‘Campbell River’ which was going to be my new home. It was at this very moment I realized why they call it “The Beautiful British Columbia”!
