I lived in Korea before I came to Canada. A long time ago, I had a friend in middle school. After 18 years, we met again in Korea. She had moved to Canada, but she came back to Korea and we met again. We wrote letters to each other for over 10 years. There was no internet or cell phones back then.
We promised to get married. We had a wedding in Korea and another one in Canada. Now, we have three lovely children.
When I was young, I played soccer for 10 years. Then I went to the army. After that, I became a soldier for 10 years. One day, I hurt my knee and had to leave the army.
Then I learned how to make coffee and opened a coffee shop. Three years later, I met my wife again.
When I first came to Canada, I felt happy and excited. Everything was new. I traveled around and saw many places. But I could not speak English well, so I was worried. My wife helped me, but I didn’t want to depend on her forever.
I was busy with work and taking care of our children, so I didn’t have much time to study English. But then I got a job at a Canadian company. I started to speak more English at work. My English got better little by little.
Later, I tried to get a job at Air Canada. I had an interview and passed the tests. I finally got the job!
Even now, my English is not perfect. Sometimes I don’t understand everything people say. But I keep trying and I want to speak better one day.
Sometimes I think life in Korea might be easier for me. But I live in Canada for my wife and children. I want to get used to life in Canada and be happy here with my family.
