It's more wonderful to know that while we celebrate Mother's Day in May we in Syria celebrate in March. Whether in May or March, Mother’s Day is an important celebration for us.
Our mothers do so much for their families and children. They help us grow into better and good people. They keep doing everything even if it makes them tired and patient, often without feeling like it’s a burden, we can’t do anything to return that to them. No gift or word can truly match the value of what they do for us.
Although one day isn’t enough for our mothers, we try to spend this holiday by celebrating together as a family. On Mother’s Day, we gather at my mother’s home with my siblings, their families, and our children. We cook a big meal, bake a cake, decorate the house, and play music. My mother enjoys walking with children and sharing ice cream with them.
At the end of the party, we give her gifts which she loves, like flowers, jewelry and a gift card. She always prays for us and expresses how much she misses her other daughters in Lebanon, wishing she could see them more often.
Mother’s Day, whether in March or May, is a special and meaningful day. It reminds us to show our mothers the respect and appreciation for everything they’ve done for our families and our community.
