I came to Canada from Korea about 4 years ago.
After becoming a permanent resident of Canada, the first thing I did was to take English test. I am working as a dental technician in Canada, but I have never studied English since graduating from high school 20 years ago. So, I wanted to improve my English.
I went to YMCA and took the English test and I got CLB5. I wanted to take in-person class, but the schedule was so tight and I needed to take care of my boy. So, I chose to study by myself at home.
About 20 years ago In Korea, most English learning was focused on grammar. Speaking and listening were not the focus. Also, all English tests are multiple choice. So, for me, it was difficult to talk with people in English. I always worried about whether my English grammar was wrong or right. Also, I was worried about studying alone at home.
Then, I met a good teacher using the online LINC home program. I have been gaining new words and knowledge using LINC home program for 4 months. It is hard to work and study together. But I am trying to memorize even one word a day. My teacher sent me new information and homework. Sometimes, the homework is difficult, some of the things I learned in online class are also hard and It is difficult to study English alone, but it is very helpful to study with a teacher using LINC Home Study Program. I hope to be successful in my journey.
