Homeland

Mountain village with the view of Himalayas

I wanted to tell you a bit about my old neighborhood here in Dharan, Nepal. It is a very peaceful and beautiful place, where I was born and raised which is located in the eastern part of Nepal surrounded by green hills and full of friendly faces.

My neighborhood is close to Bhanu chowk, which is one of busiest and most popular areas in Dharan. Here the streets are wide, clean, with small trees and tall buildings on both roadsides. People are always walking, or riding bicycles and driving scooters.

There are so many small and big shops and restaurants where you can buy vegetables, clothes, and electronics. The local restaurants serve delicious dishes like momo, chow mein, thukpa, chatpate. One of my favorite things to enjoy in the evening is Aalu Nimki at a roadside stall.

One of my favorite places nearby is BPKHIS Hospital, which is one of the largest hospitals in Nepal. It offers many facilities including a dental hospital, and various treatment services. Inside the hospital area there is a golf course and large football ground where I used to play with my friends.

There are also several parks and green spaces as well. Depot park is a great place to relax and go for walk in the evening. Families come here to spend time together and kids play while elders sit and chat.

The weather is pleasant most of the year, and from some parts of Dharan, you can even get a glimpse of the beautiful Himalayan range on the clear days. I feel really lucky to lived here it’s a perfect blend of tradition, nature and modern life. If you ever visit Nepal you must come and see it for yourself.
