“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination” - Jimmy Dean

Adjusting the plan is very important while we are facing unexpected situation

Goal setting is essential to living a life with purpose and meaning. It encompasses all of our plans for the future, all of our hopes, dreams and visions for what we want in life. Sometimes in life, we may face unexpected challenges or obstacles. These obstacles we may not regulate or change. And yet we often fail to reach our goals. That is because we are all human and can be easily distracted. So, to achieve our goal and see it become real, we need to be flexible or we need to adjust the plan. Jimmy Dean says “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination’’. This tells us, in order to achieve our plan and to overcome the new challenges, we need to have alternative plans or we have to focus on what we can do. To share my experience, when I came to Canada, my plan was working professionally with the degree I have from back home. However, in Canada, the foreign degree and credentials I have need to be assessed for a specific job, but it takes a long time. Therefore, I decided to apply my plan B as a short term goal to support my family and at the same time, I started finding a real solution for my main goal to come true. In general, unexpected challenges can be less threatening if we are working on the options that we have at hand.
