It is wedding season on Canada! This means that many couples are planning their Spring and Summer weddings, so there are a lot of "Wedding Shows".
I found an interesting link with wedding superstitions. Here is the information I found:

The Wedding Dress
Most brides today marry in white to symbolize purity. The tradition was begun by the wealthy in the 16th century. The tradition was given a boost by Queen Victoria who chose to marry in white instead of silver, the usual choice of Royal brides.
Other superstitions include:
It’s unlucky for the bride to make her own wedding dress.
It’s unlucky for the groom to see the bride in her wedding dress before until she arrives at the ceremony.
The bride should not wear her entire outfit before the wedding day. In some cultures, the bride leaves a final stitch on the dress undone until it is time to leave for the ceremony when the final stitch is added by someone other than the bride.

The Veil
The veil was originally worn by Roman brides. It was actually designed to trick the evil spirits by disguising the bride and hiding her face.

In some Eastern ceremonies the bride is veiled and the groom is not allowed to see the bride's face until after the wedding ceremony.
In Orthodox Jewish weddings, there is a ritual where the groom actually sees the bride to ensure she is his intended, before the veil covers her face.

Going to the Ceremony
When the bride is ready to home for the wedding ceremony, a last peek in the mirror is thought to bring her good luck. However, returning to the mirror once she has begun her journey has the opposite effect and is considered very bad luck.
Brides should keep a sharp eye out for lambs, toads, spiders, black cats and rainbows – all of which are good luck omens if spotted on the way to the ceremony.
On the other hand, seeing an open grave, a pig, a lizard, or hearing a cockerel crow after dawn are all thought to be bad omens.
Curiously, seeing a monk or a nun is thought to predict poverty for the newlyweds. This may be because monks and nuns are associated with poverty.
Bad weather can be good and bad. Rain on the way to the wedding is thought to make an unhappy marriage in some cultures, while in others, rain is considered good luck. Cloudy skies and wind mean a stormy marriage. But a snowstorm is good – snow is associated with fertility and wealth.
In England, many brides pay a chimney sweep to come to the house and kiss her en route to the ceremony. Kissing a sweep on this auspicious day is considered lucky.
What are your wedding superstitions?

In Taiwan:
After engagement party, they will prepare cookie or cake  for their friends and relatives, but the groom and the bride  can't eat their engagement cookie or cake. It will bring them bad luck.
We use red paper to cover all the mirror for their bed room at the first day.Don't let them use mirrow. If they see themseleves from the mirrow, it's bad for their marriage.
Before the first night, we will ask some kids to sit or lie down on the bed, it means the new couple will have kids.

CryIn the subcontinent ie India and Pakistan. One week before the marriage the bride is covered with the herb called 'obtan' it has a yellowish colour and scent. and the bride is not allowed to bath during this period. She is not allowed to go out or meet male members with exceptions of real brother, father, brother of father or mother. She can not meet her cousins. She is only allowed to see her groom after the wedding ceremony in a mirror, both the bride and groom would sit with the mirror in between and their heads covered with a big scarf.  During this period the girls of the family surround the bride to keep her company and sing wedding songs. The white dress is rare for a bride as white or black dress is a symbol of mourning and sorrow, the wedding dress is mostly red.

Actually I know a little about the wedding superstition. Nowadays in the big cities of China, people are very open to the wedding ceremony. Some couples even don't have ceremony for their wedding. I believe most new couples will invite the relates and friends for a lunch or dinner together. First the bride will wear in white, then change to red. There are some games during the dinner and afer in the new couple's home.

Oh, I forget to let you know that the matchmaker will get a pair of shoes because she walked a lot for the marriage. Tongue

All over the world wedding-day is considered as a special day. However, there are also a lot of superstitions around it, and Cuban weddings are not the exception. In general Cuba is known for their many different festivities during a wedding. But many superstitions have grown up around this remarkable event. Most of them have to do with the bride, maybe because of the enormous amount of pressure on her to create the perfect wedding day. It is very probably that some Cuban wedding superstitions have great similitude with other cultures. The most powerful superstition, that most people follow to this day, is about the bride dress. It is bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her dress on their wedding day.

The bride for good luck has to wear something old, new, borrowed and blue. Each one of these things have different meanings but all of them should be wearing for bring good luck to the bride. Raining on the wedding day is good look, except for all the inconvenience that it brings out.  Wedding dress color has to be white since it symbolizes that the bride has chosen right. A strong tradition is the groom has to wait for his bride; she never ever can arrive before the groom because if she does, she will embarrass all her family and the groom’s family too. The cake too plays an important role on wedding party. The couple has to make the first cut together to symbolize their shared future. The bride has to throw her bouquet back over her shoulder to the group of single women at the wedding celebration. The single woman who catches the bride's bouquet will be the next lucky bride. Guests and family should throw rice over the couple when they leave to their honeymoon as sign of fertility and a full pantry. At the end I think that all of these superstitions are related to the desire of a lasting marriage, which is something that people can not accomplish only because they have followed the wedding superstitions.

I hope you like to it Approve
