Well, it's Friday again!

    Desiderata

    Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
    and remember what peace there may be in silence.
    As far as possible without surrender
    be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even the dull and the ignorant;
    they too have their story.

    Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
    they are vexations to the spirit.
    If you compare yourself with others,
    you may become vain and bitter;
    for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
    Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
    it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
    Exercise caution in your business affairs;
    for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
    many persons strive for high ideals;
    and everywhere life is full of heroism.

    Be yourself.
    Especially, do not feign affection.
    Neither be cynical about love;
    for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
    it is as perennial as the grass.

    Take kindly the counsel of the years,
    gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
    Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
    But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
    Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
    Beyond a wholesome discipline,
    be gentle with yourself.

    You are a child of the universe,
    no less than the trees and the stars;
    you have a right to be here.
    And whether or not it is clear to you,
    no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

    Therefore be at peace with God,
    whoever you conceive Him to be,
    and wdon't likever your labors and aspirations,
    in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

    With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
    it is still a beautiful world.
    Be cheerful.
    Strive to be happy.

    Max Ehrmann, Desiderata, Copyright 1952.

Well.... it's not Friday. Just in case any one needs a pick-me-up:

"Focus on the road, not the wall."

Thumbs Up

Diana Nyad: "Never, ever give up"

"In the pitch-black night, stung by jellyfish, choking on salt water, singing to herself, hallucinating … Diana Nyad just kept on swimming. And that's how she finally achieved her lifetime goal as an athlete: an extreme 100-mile swim from Cuba to Florida -- at age 64. Hear her story."

  • Laugh at yourself. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Share your embarrassing moments and your quirks — you’re only human, after all.
  • Look for the positives in situations. Life is full of bizarre and ironic moments. Searching for a new perspective will open your mind to new possibilities.
  • Surround yourself with positive people and images that make you smile or laugh. In particular, observe children who are experts at playing with everyday problems.
  • Accept what you can’t control or change. Especially remember you can’t change the behaviour of others.
  • Be grateful. Reflect on what’s good in your life.
  • Make time for humour and laughter. Watch a funny movie or TV show, share funny jokes or stories, indulge in your favourite activities.

5 Ways to Add More Joy to Your Life

Dr. Cynthia Thaik

Cardiologist, Author, Founder Of Revitalize-U

1. Keep it simple. Do you find that you often have so much on your plate that it is difficult to even think about enjoying the good things in life? If so, it may be time to take a serious look at what is truly important to you. If you can cut out the unnecessary, you leave yourself with more time to do what truly makes you happy. Try to stop overstretching yourself, learn to say no every so often, and make time for yourself and the people you love.

2. Make a conscious decision to enjoy life more. In their book The 9 Choices of Happy People, authors Rick Foster and Greg Hicks write, "Intention is the active desire and commitment to be happy ... It's the decision to consciously choose attitudes and behaviors that lead to happiness over unhappiness." Once you intentionally decide to be more joyful, you will find more reasons to be happy on a regular basis.

3. Make your own personal joy list. Writing a list of the things that make you truly happy is a good way to trigger positive, joyful feelings, and to remind yourself to do these things more often. Try to write down at least 10 things that make you happy, and then strive to incorporate those things into your life on a daily basis.

4. Spend more time with the people you love and with other happy people. People who cultivate social networks and a sense of community tend to be more joyful than those who do not. Moreover, research by the Harvard Medical School shows that happiness is contagious, so the more you spend time with happy people, the more that happiness will spread to you and your friends and your friend's friends and so on.

5. Be kind to someone else. When you go out of your way to make someone else feel good, you will often find yourself feeling good as well. Sometimes all it takes is a random act of kindness, a small compliment or a smile to brighten up someone's day, which in turn will make you feel happier and better about yourself.

The best thing about joy is that we can all choose to have it in our lives, plus this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use. By making conscious decisions to let joy in, reminding yourself of the things you have to be happy about, and creating more time to do the things you love and spend time with the people you care about, you can create a life that is more joyful, healthful and fulfilling.

“Failure is not fatal. Failure should be our teacher, not our undertaker.
It should challenge us to new heights of accomplishments, not pull us to new depths of despair.
From honest failure can come valuable experience.”
