Celebration

Mr and Mrs written behind chairs

A wedding is a very big event in Mongolia. During this event a couple wears two to three costumes; a ceremonial or traditional dress, reception dress and Deel. Deel is Mongolian traditional clothes. The groom could wear two different clothes or costumes, one is Deel and the other one could be a suit. But in a Mongolian wedding a couple doesn’t have to change their clothes, it's just nowadays couples prefer to change their clothes few times for their comfort. Because wedding dresses are big and heavy or tight, it can be hard to sit for a longer time and eat.

Guests can wear anything they want. In western culture women guests can't wear white, because it is seen as not respecting the bride, but, in Mongolia we don't think that.

The wedding ceremony lasts about an hour and reception could take 5-6 hours or longer, depends on the wedding, the numbers of guests, the wedding plan or the couples.

Most weddings serve dinners, appetizers, salads and alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. The reception starts after the guests arrive, photos are taken, after that introducing both sides of the family and then the meals and the entertainment begins.  Usually, a singer or an artist shows up, the bride and the groom dance, and the guests join in and then dance.  At the very end couples leave the wedding reception. The honeymoon is not very traditional in Mongolia.  Only nowadays, young couples choose to have a honeymoon. Some leave right away after the wedding ceremony and reception but some couples wait until winter and then go somewhere nice and warm.
