Education

Healthcare And Medicine.

My name is Rana Akrawi. I am writing to share with you, my experience as Rotation, Resident and GP doctor.

Back home, in southern city of Basrah, Iraq I graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Basrah as a doctor. In 2001, I started my practical life as a rotative doctor.

I spent three months in every branch of medicine.

I commenced with Gynecology branch in the busiest hours of the labour wards with eagerness and fear, but fear disappeared by hearing first cry of the newborn baby which symbolizes the beginning of the new life.

After three months, I moved to the internal medicine, which was one of the most critical branches in the medicine in my opinion. Hence, I was dealing with all heart diseases which has one of the highest rate of fatality even now. From my side, l had to deal with the hot cases at the emergency room.

On completion of the internal medicine, my team moved to the surgery branch. With the most exciting experience of conducting minor and medium operations under supervision of the senior doctor, I passed with flying colour results.

Then I moved to Pediatric branch. With unforgettable memories of dealing with cases of premature babies, l looked after ten incubators at once, conducting blood exchanges on the babies with congenital jaundice and many more cases.

Next, I spent the longest period moving between the different branches of pediatric, i.e. Thalassemia, Malnourished, Leukemia, and Emergency.

After the first year, I got moved to serve in the remote areas around the Basrah City as a GP in Gynecology.

I conducted the follow up checking on pregnant women, and in pediatric, dealt with sick children and prescribed   the medicine to heal. I also lead teams of vaccination campaigns as per the designated schedule.

This was the end of the hardest journey in medical path.  I hope to repeat all that from the first.  I also hope that I have provided sufficient coverage of my experience back home as a doctor.
