Taxi sign on street, black and white

One night, shortly after Christmas time, on a very cold night, I was driving my taxi, and I saw a man freezing in the cold. He was on the verge of tears.

He was telling every taxi driver that he “lost his wallet and has no money” but he would pay when he got home.  He wanted to go out of town.   No taxi driver would take him, because, when we go out of town, we get our fare upfront.  If we don’t, sadly, some people run away from the car and don’t pay.

I was watching him he was there for a long time. And he came to me and said, “Please take me home?I am cold I will pay you there. I have two kids, I am not lying“. When I looked at him I felt so sorry for him.  I said, “Get in, I will take you home, but you better pay me!” He was very happy and said, “I will pay you “.

When we got to his town (long story short), he ran away from me and I didn’t get paid. I was sad because he wasted my time and gas, but deep inside I was feeling good that I took him: if I hadn’t taken him I am sure I couldn’t have slept that night. I would’ve been thinking that I left him on the road on a freezing cold winter night.

Anyway, I returned to my town and decided that I was going home. I was done for the night. I was on my way to the gas station when I got a call on my computer. I said, let’s just take that last call and then I will go home.

It was a young lady. We had a good conversation. I didn’t tell her anything about what happened with me earlier that night. When we got to her house my fare on the meter was $45. She handed me five $50 bills! I said, ”Oh, that’s too much. She said,” I know, keep it, it’s for you.” I said it again, this is a lot of money!” She explained to me that she was a real-estate agent, and she had just sold her first house that day. She was very happy about that.

I was so happy because it confirmed my belief in doing good deeds got stronger! And I believe that one good turn deserves another.
