Travel (Outside of Canada)

People and old cars in a central street in Havana

The summer was approaching so, my family and relatives decided to go to Cuba for a short vacation.   Cuba is the only communist country in the Americas, so for Chinese who come from a communist country as well we were really curious to go and feel this unique country, Cuba.

We stayed at a resort town called Varadero which has more than twenty kilometers of white sandy beaches and light blue ocean, the reflection of an azure sky.  My family and relatives really enjoyed the days in Cuba.  When we woke up in the morning we walked on the beach to see the sun rise, and then played in the water the whole day.   I liked to pick up sea shells on the beach, until we saw the sun set when the sun disappeared on the horizon.  We really enjoyed the days like that, very relaxed.  The kids had fun by themselves, and all the relatives communicated more peacefully and understood each other in a more profound way.

We also went to the capital city of Cuba, Havana.  There, we saw the colorful; classic cars on the street, horses and carts also shared the road in some places.   I saw amazing, colorfully dressed Cuban dressed woman enjoying, smoking a cuban cigar.

When I got lost there was always someone who came to help even though we could not communicate in English most of the time, but I could still feel their friendliness.

The first time I came to know about Cuba was from an American author, Hemingway who won the prize for his book “The Old Man and the Sea”.

Hemingway said: "This is a prize that belongs to Cuba, because my work was both inspired by and written in Cuba." When I was there in Cuba I really liked this colorful country as well.
