Canada

Flag of china flying

I learned about Canada when I was in middle school. All I knew about this country is that it was far, far away from us, and had long and very cold winters. I never thought that I would live in Canada someday. But it happened, and this is the third year I've been living there. Now I want to say Canada is the second home country for me. I would like to spend the rest of my life to live here if possible.

Each country has its pros and cons. I love my home country, no doubt, but I didn't realize how much it meant to me until October 1 this year (Chinese National Day). There was a flag-raising ceremony in Saint John, and I began tearing up when I saw the Chinese national flag rising in the air. This also made me realize how multicultural and friendly Canadian people and I was so touched.

Now I often talk about my present life in Canada with my Chinese relatives, friends, and some of my former colleagues. I talk most about the natural scenery here. We dreamed that someday we could live in a safe place without polluted air, water and food, and now I made it here. If someone could choose, of course they would like to choose a place to live better. This has nothing to do with patriotism.

Canadians are known around the world for their friendly and nice character. One winter night, I went out for a walk alone after supper. Two cars stopped beside me and asked me if I need a lift. I shared this story with many people. If you are lost in a strange place, people always try to help, sometimes people even show you the way to the location you want by themselves. On the road, you often see some drivers give you a friendly gesture and let you go first with a polite and gentle smile. These gestures often brighten my whole day. What a lovely country I live in!
