Employment

over-the-shoulder shot of driver with navigation displayed

I am a driver at a travel company. My job is picking up or dropping off passengers at their destinations. Usually, it is from Waterloo to Person Airport and Toronto. Most my passengers are university students. They are very young, but have a lot of knowledge. Most of them are very nice and polite. I have been doing this job for one year. Every day, I travel on Highway 401, but I never feel bored because I have different passengers every day and I like to talk with my passengers. We have topics about life, studying, vacation, weather, future, etc. Young men have their own opinions. Some I agree with, and some I don’t. We discuss with each other. This way, time passes very fast. Sometimes, I feel tired if the passengers sleep as soon as they get on.

The biggest trouble is traffic jam. Sometimes we have to go very slowly to get to our destination. The other problem is that the airplane is sometimes late. I need to wait and explain to other passengers patiently and express apologies for being late. When the weather is bad, we need to depart early. I never miss a passenger and never make a mistake, so all my passengers trust me. In order to facilitate passengers booking, we have our own website and a WeChat public number. Most passengers are satisfied with our service. Sometimes, I can get some tips. In addition, we also deal with tourism work. We take tourists to Quebec, Ottawa, Niagara Falls and the Algonquin Park. We have 6 Mercedes Benz cars for tourism. These are welcome by tourists. This is a flexible job. I don’t need to work 8 hours in factories. There is no supervision of supervisors. I don’t have to go to work every day. I have a lot of time to do anything I like. During our low season when we don’t have too many pickups, I can stay at home, read, study, or do anything I like. But during our high season, we are very busy. We have to go to the airport four times. This means I have to drive more than 800 kilometres every day and work more than 10 hours. All in all, I like my job very much.
