In my opinion, I agree with the above statement. Volunteering is a good experience. 

What I think is, when you do something for others without expecting anything from them that makes you happy. You feel proud by yourself which help to raise your self-confidence. So yes, it is good way to get experience and meet people. You can make new relations or friends at volunteering place. It will also help you to grow your communicating skills and teach you relation building. You can learn many things from new people and learn from their life experience.

Other than these, young kids can also volunteer in some places like library, community center, temple, summer camp or public events. These will allow them to meet new people and learn new things. Now a days, there are many places for online volunteering for teaching or life coaching. If you don't have enough mobility you can use this type of volunteering to help people. 

Volunteering will help people to grow in many ways. Meeting many people will help you to grow as a person as well as in your career. So, I must say volunteering is good way to get experience and meet people.
