“With a book you are never alone.”

Reading is not only a good company but also a rich source of information.

Instead of being consumed by the plague of social media, reading a book can relax you and reduce stress.  An article I recently read called, “The Power of Reading”, talks about the important of reading which motivated me to read more and reminded me about my father who is an educated person with an answer for any question.  I always asked him about his wild knowledge and the answer was reading.

My father’s spiritual qualities which make him calm in adversity, happy when he is alone, his ability to communicate effectively with all age groups from different backgrounds, and his social intelligence always made me want to be a person like him.  I remember his library which contained many kinds of books, for example, Philosophy, Science, Encyclopedia, Agriculture and Historical books.  I was fascinated by his books and I still remember some of the titles.

When I was in high school, philosophy was my favorite class.  I read a lot about Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.  For many people, these kinds of books are boring but for me they were a kind of joy. After high school I decided to study English literature, and at that time I discovered my passion about nonfiction books which my dad has passed on to me. I started reading about comparative and critical literature I found it very interesting to study people’s behaviors or even take a lesson from other people’s experiences.

After finishing my study, I started to read self-improvement books and I was so excited to get positive energy throughout day.  Also, it was useful for me to improve my English language. After I came to Canada, I realized the importance of reading.  People read everywhere. Also, there are public libraries which supplies with variety of books and many activities such as reading stories for kids and book clubs for adults. Borrowing books for me and my kids was a good opportunity for me because it gave me an exposure to the world of reading.

Even though sometimes I don’t have enough time for reading as I’m a mom two children, I started to listen for audiobooks. Recently, my teacher recommended to me a book called the “Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale, and I found it on YouTube as an audio I really enjoy listening to it.

As reading is very important, my immediate goal is to increase my reading time every day and turn this passion into a habit, and also to participate in a book club to share and discuss my thoughts and ideas.

Reading for me is like a workout for my brain. This priceless activity keeps my brain focused and improves my memory.
