I asked my teacher for a novel I could read, and she suggested this book. This is the first thing I read by John Steinbeck. It is a short novel that falls within a hundred pages, but its message is very deep. The novel "Of Mice and Men" was written in 1937. 

"Of Mice and Men" tells the story of farmers, George and Lenny, as they move among Californian farms in search of work during the Depression that hit America at the time.

In this relationship between George and Lynne, George is a smart personality and a mastermind, while Lenny represents muscle strength with no intelligence skills ... high physical strength and a mind like a child.

The basic idea of the novel as I saw it is "You have to send righteous people and beings to the other world when they cannot do it themselves." And that's a big moral dilemma! Whether you love it or hate it you have to move these people to a better life.

This was represented in two references in the novel.

The first scene was the killing of Candy's old dog.

Carlson, the son of the owner of the farm, could not stand Candy’s dog at home just to feed him, and his smell remained even after he left the bunk house. Moreover, Carlson did not understand why this old dog should be alive since he was no benefit to anyone, even to himself, he become old! That's why Carlson convinced Candy that his dog must die, so he drove him out and shot him. All he did when he heard the sound of his dog was turn on his bed against the wall and soon understood the departure of his dog who accompanied him for years. Then he began to plan for his life, which he was worried about, because he had only one hand, he knew that the owner of the farm would not hesitate to fire him from his work when it becomes useless ..just like his dog.

The second and most important scene is the scene at the end. Things become complicated as George tries to protect his friend Lenny who does not understand what he does. Now we are faced with the ending of a life and this time it is a human being and not a dog.

Lenny does not belong to this life with his innocence and kindness, despite his great utility in physical work. But on the other hand, he may be dangerous when he uses his power wrongly because of his ignorance, such as what he did with Carlson when he smashed things, and also when he turned Carlson's wife's neck and killed her.

When Carlson's wife was killed by Lenny by mistake, he got confused and fled to hide in a faraway place that George had told him about before. George went to meet him there and asked him to turn around-not facing George. As usual, Lenny obeyed and heard him telling him about the beauty of the place he will go to soon. You will have to read the book to know the ending!  

Definitely I suggest that you read the novel because it was very nice with simple words and it wasn't too long! The story makes you think about what you are doing? What are your goals? Physically strength is not everything, but neither is being a nice and kind person is not everything too!!! We need to think twice before we make a decision! You will change your your life after reading this book. I loved it!
