Canada

Parliament Hill over the water

Day by day we work hard and wait for the weekend to take a break, to relax and finally, to spend quality time with family. To make this time more efficient, we look for different opportunities that the place we live in can provide. Ottawa is one of those places where we can find a countless number of activities for people who want to enjoy them.

As one of the biggest cities in Canada and the capital of our country, Ottawa invites you and your family to spend your free time together by visiting various museums, art galleries, music halls or taking a guiding tour downtown. For those who love the active outdoor life, this city offers beautiful hiking and bicycle trails in the town parks and nearby the Ottawa River and Rideau Canal.

As a newcomer family, we really like to explore and discover the place where we live in. This way, we are really surprised to find out that Ottawa will not allow us to stay at home and waste our time. Last month, on the weekends, we found ourselves visiting the Tulip Festival with thousands of different flower shapes and colours, the celebration of Victoria Day with fireworks and plenty of family activities. Last weekend took us to the adventure of the "Doors Open Ottawa", a free annual architectural event that celebrates the heritage of the city. We spent an amazing time exploring “The Diefenbunker”, Canada's Cold War Museum, satellite communication station that was built in 1960 by NATO and the Canadian Department of National Defence. By the end of the day, we found ourselves on the Ottawa River Beach in Britannica Park where we relaxed and enjoyed incredible views while testing locally made ice cream.

I really appreciate all opportunities kindly provided by the City of Ottawa and her inhabitants. In my opinion, to become a real Canadian we must be familiar with history, traditions and neighbourhood of the place where we live in.
