Celebration

Eid greeting and illustration

My house means a lot to me. It is where I grew up and where my children were born, so Eid was celebrated there with my whole family. It’s one of the happiest days in our lives.

Before Eid we went to buy new clothes, gifts and sweets. On the first day of Eid, we went early to pray and share greetings with everyone .When we returned home the family met us and we ate the pastries and sweets made by my mother and wife. In the afternoon we received guests and on the second day we went to visit relatives, pray, pay money to the poor. We rejoiced and thanked God for the blessings.

In Canada, I will be honest with you, Eid felt a little different. I and my family prayed and celebrated it in our home. We used to share it with others, but now we are only close to our God. Eid is still wonderful because we are able to send charity to the needy in my country, and they were happy because they bought the new clothes for their children. Even though we have no relatives here, we were able to create joy with our children.

All children are happy because they get a lot of money. What matters to us is that we plant a smile on the faces of children, and the poor, and this is the real act that God has commanded.
