I believe freedom and happiness are the two elements that every individual looks for when finding a job. It is something that I looked for and highly valued, as being able to work with flexibility and finding happiness in what you do allows you to achieve success which cannot be appraised by others. Only oneself can determine this.

When I moved to Canada in 2015 after having completed my automotive diploma from Pakistan, finding a job was my top priority. After applying to several jobs online, I happily accepted an offer from a company where I was mainly to load products into a delivery truck. The pay was minimum and the work we were given was to the maximum. Working almost ten hours a day, loading heavy and large materials into a truck was extremely demanding of my physical strength and stamina. On top of this, the supervisors were very strict and barely communicated instructions or helped. We were also not allowed to talk to other workers or ask for help as the supervisors believed that this would waste time. I found no freedom nor happiness in this type of work environment. So, I quit after having saved some money.

The second job I was hired into gave me more freedom and allowed me to sustain a positive attitude not only towards my friendly coworkers and supervisors but, with my work as well. It required me to stay focused and detail orientated as I was to build dental machinery. This job was somewhat related to my qualifications as it was hands-on work. Despite having a much better salary, more freedom and happiness it still was not my dream job as the schedule was fixed. However, I did not quit.

I later learned about an Uber Eats app from a friend and decided to give it a try. When I first began Uber driving and meeting new people, and providing a variety of food services, I learned to love my job. It gave me freedom as this job allowed me to build a schedule based on my liking and timings. It gave me happiness as the curiosity of not knowing whom I would meet or provide service to gave me a reason to look forward to work. I decided to make this as a part-time job. Despite leaving my first job and sticking with my current one, it allowed me to learn and explore my likes and dislikes as well as my strengths.
