Species at risk are the plants and animals that may disappear unless human beings do several actions and do them soon. Scientists are now in agreement that we only have 11 years to act to alter the destruction of the planet and its many ecosystems. Today, there are 521 plants and animals species considered at risk under Canada's Species at Risk Act, and that's because of the activities that people continue to do, which put species and their habitats at risk such as clear-cut logging, mining, trophy hunting, oil, gas and industrial agriculture. Since 1970, marine species have declined by 39%, freshwater species have declined by 76%, and wildlife populations have declined globally by about 58%. The government of Canada must take measures to protect those species even if the provincial governments fight against change.
