Canada

Family having a barbecue party

It was July 2nd, the day after Canada day; our family woke up at 5:30 in the morning to prepare going to Earl Bales Park for a family day. It was only my family who planned the event. We wished to go there as early as possible so we could get the best place for us to stay for the whole day. My daughter Clarisse brought her bicycle and took a bus going to the park at around 6:00 am to make sure we could get the biggest tree with the biggest shade.

Since we don’t have a car, my husband, my daughter Charlotte and I took a taxi going there. Right after we arrived, my husband started the BBQ and we had our breakfast there. My children were enjoying roaming around the park with their bicycles. At noon time, we used our picnic mat for taking a nap.

Around 2:00 pm, some of our friends came to join us. We started to BBQ the rest of the meat and sausages that we had and some corn and sweet potato for dinner. It was a fun dinner that we used our cleaned hands to eat. After we ate, I got ready to make some “halo-halo” for everyone. It is a very popular dessert of Filipino people during the summer time. I just combined all the ingredients in a glass like tapioca balls, sweetened cubed banana, jelly, red beans, coconut gel, coconut strips, corn kernels, sweet jackfruit, and I topped it with a bit of sugar and crushed ice. Then I poured some milk on it and topped it again with creamed corn, a scoop of ice cream and a teaspoon of rice krispies. Everyone enjoyed the dessert I made for them.

We stayed at the park until 8pm. It was so much fun for us for it was the first time for my family to have an activity like this after they came here to Canada in 2015.
