Canada

Lake Superior

Moving to Canada opened up great opportunities for me and for my family. Canada is a country which is extraordinarily rich in its diversity of nature. We like to travel and discover something new and interesting. This summer we visited lots of nice places located not too far from Sault Ste. Marie.

I would like to tell you about an incredibly beautiful place. This is Bathtub Island or Katherine Cove. The Bathtub Island is located approximately one and a half hours from Sault Ste. Marie. On the way to the Bathtub Island, you also can find a lot of nice places to stop and relax, but we wanted to get there sooner. And believe me, our expectations were surpassed.

We parked our car along the road and walked through the forest about 200 metres. Imagination has drawn different pictures of expectations, but suddenly we saw such a wonderful picture that only a talented artist would be able to describe it truthfully.

The boundless Lake Superior bathes fine white sand of the shore by gentle waves. This lake's water is so clean and clear that you can see your feet and the bottom of the lake even when you're underwater. It seems like a sculptor has created the bottom, decorating with white sandy dunes. The depth of the lake's bottom grows slowly and gently as you are moving away from the shore. The air was hot, so the sand was also hot. Only the water was nice and refreshing, so we did not want to get out of the water. We swam, dove and played with a beach ball. We became more impressed by the beauty of Bathtub Island.

You can reach this island by foot. The depth of the water is only one metre. This island was created from the large round stones. There is a small pool in the middle of the island. Some water gets to this slight indentation from the lake, and it resembles a warm bathtub. On the other side of the island, people dive into the lake. There are some trees growing right among these stones. This is a really romantic place which attracts enamoured people.

During our stay at Bathtub Island, we met a young couple. I guess they are tourists. They swam, played the guitar and sang songs. It seemed they were alone, just them, the island and endless water. When I think about the best feelings I had recently, my memory brings to mind feelings of warm white sand, refreshing water and the romantic island. I believe this place would inspire artists to create unique pictures. If you are ready to discover a small paradise, you certainly have to visit Bathtub Island.
