Homeland

map of Nepal with flag

It is said “home sweet home” and everyone will find out the meaning of this expression for himself. I am from Nepal, the country of Mount Everest which is the highest mountain in the world. I feel proud to be born in Nepal. As it’s a mountainous country, tourists from different parts of the world come to visit. Besides its natural beauty, Nepal is rich in cultural heritage. There are 14 Jones and 75 districts which are home for people of different cultures and religions.

The most important thing I like about my country is that people are very patriotic. The flag of Nepal is unique for it is triangular in shape. Apart from that, Nepal in the only Hindu country in the world. Culture and customs are totally different from other countries. For example, public kissing, hugging and hand holding among boys and girls are considered offensive; although love marriages are accepted in many cultures. People are very conservative regarding clothing. Men are not allowed to walk bear chest and women should wear decent dresses. A cow is our national animal so we don’t kill it but worship instead. The elderly people are always given respect by bowing to them.

There are beautiful places to visit like: Lumbini, the birth place of Gautam Buddha, the highest peak of the world, Mount Everest, and Pokhara. Nepal is one of the best places for rafting and kayaking. Some regions of my country are covered with dense forests full of diverse wildlife. We can find exciting safari destinations there as well. Last but not least, there are mountain flights from Mt. Everest to other summits.

The thing which I miss the most is Nepali food. Dal Bhat Tarkari is our national food. Dal is a soup made up of spices and lentils. Bhat is a kind of rice and Tarkari is a kind of vegetable curry usually served with spicy pickles. Almost all of the cuisine is a variation on Asian themes.

Do not hesitate to try one of them as it will instill in you a taste of Nepal, my home country.
