Settlement

Red silk leaves in shape of Canadian Flag on white wood table.

The country I am from is Baglung, Nepal. I came to Canada in April of 2008. I first immigrated here alone, and after two years, my family (wife and sons) came. I came hoping to find a better life with more opportunities, and also because Nepal was in constant civil war over who was going to rule the country. I found it unsafe, and realized it was no place where I wanted to raise my family. When I first arrived in Canada, I was met by one of my relatives who had been living here for over a decade, and he helped me understand how things worked in this new land. At first, I felt like a tourist as I visited all sites worth going to in Toronto like the CN Tower and Niagara Falls. As I was alone without my family for the first two years, I missed home. Though Nepal will always be my home, I have come to accept Canada to be my other home as I have become used to my life here. To anyone who is immigrating to Canada, I recommended it as it is a new beginning with endless possibilities if you are willing to give it a try.
