Winter 2015

Seasonal

close up of single leaf changing colour

I arrived in Canada during the month of November and was so excited to see how beautiful Canada was. At the same time, I was a bit lonely and I felt really cold because the wind was too strong for me. I wore a sweater while the people here were still in their t-shirts and shorts. I was a bit embarrassed, but I needed to wear winter clothes as it was far colder here than in the Philippines.

I still remember that time clearly because it was my first time to see different colour tree leaves: some were red, the other yellow, and some were white. They looked amazing. I never imagined that trees would turn their leaves to different colours. It was really awe inspiring because I had never seen anything like this before in Asia or in the Philippines. The Philippines is a beautiful country, but we don’t have different colours of leaves, just green. Then, when they die, they turn brown. I truly enjoyed the fall here because you could see amazing flowers and trees with different shapes and colours as well as fresh apples. It was my very first time to see a real apple tree, and when I was allowed to pick from the tree, it was amazing and gave me so much joy. Another thing that I really like here during the fall is that when you wake up in the morning, you can see the moon and the sun at the same time. I had never seen this before in my life. When I first saw it, I immediately called my mom on the phone to tell her, but she didn’t believe me at first.

After a few days in Canada, it started to rain. Then I saw ice balls falling and I wondered what was happening. My friend told me that it was called hail, which was another first for me. After a few weeks in Canada I noticed that all those beautiful trees lost their leaves and it was really sad and depressing to walk around with no leaves at all because the trees looked dead to me. Then, after one month in Canada, fall in the Okanagan was over and the snow came. I was very excited for the snow because it was another first for me, but I quickly realized that it was very cold. I think I will stick to the fall as more favourite season because it is much better and more beautiful than winter.
