Employment

group of volunteers with stacked hands

As an immigrant, after a few months with our tutors, we aspire to be independent. The most import thing we need is to have a job and satisfy our needs. Which means being able to pay the rent each month, and feed the family. Getting any kind of job, especially if the seeker is a newcomer, he will often hear this phrase: how long have been in Canada? The employers would like to know if that person has Canadian work experience.

Where can we get that experience if it’s not by doing volunteer work? By experience, I can testify that volunteering is one of the surest ways to get Canadian work experience. Oh, some will say that it’s not true because volunteers are doing that job with laziness because it's unpaid work. They did not show very well how they are at work. Anyways, it shows how Canadians work. Be punctual, work as a team with the other colleagues, work hard and ask if we don’t understand.

Working as a volunteer allows us to not only meet people, which helps to create a network, but also helps us to practice our English skills.
