Boy with Kite at sunset on the beach

One windy November day many people from the town of Ciudad Vieja, Guatemala, decided to take a stroll across the field. Many people of the town were flying their kites, and you could see the most beautiful kites handmade by neighbours. The kids were also playing with their kites on the field.

Somebody asked a little boy, “Who is responsible for flying this kite?”

“I am,” said the little boy, holding with all his might to the beautiful big kite.

He said, “I made this huge kite myself, with my own hands. I painted all of the colourful pictures on it, and I’m flying it.”

This is one of most popular traditions in my own country, Guatemala. Each November 1, almost everybody takes a hike across town to visit their deceased in the cemetery, while flying their kites.
