Settlement

Comfort zone concept

In the scientific field, moving from a big city to a small town calls for downshifting. People are looking for career opportunities and for a peaceful life. For us, moving from Toronto to Timmins became a big step as well. Both my husband and I found jobs, giving us great future opportunities. Moving gave us not only job promotions but helped us to meet many new people who became our friends.

My husband found a job as a metallurgist at a mine, so he was the initiator of our move. We moved to Timmins, a small town in Northern Ontario. There are a lot of mines and chemical laboratories in this area and I was lucky to find a position in a “sample” preparation workshop.

We began to work and meet different people. For my husband, fishing became a new hobby and passion. He goes fishing with his co-workers each week. As for me, a person who spent three years as a housewife, starting a new job was a great shock. I really appreciated that my colleagues helped me blend into the team. We spent all our breaks talking about my homeland and differences between Russia and Canada.

I have always loved comfort and considered myself a “big city” girl. To tell the truth, my position hasn’t changed, but I’m really happy that I was able to begin moving forward and had the strength to change my life style and make a step out of my comfort zone. I hope that for both my husband and me, this step will be just the beginning of a long trip to happiness and success.
