Education

In my country, Bolivia, there are many mistakes in the educational system such as teaching and learning methodology, teachers’ salaries, the infrastructure of schools and colleges, little and wrong use of technology in classes and more.  In this paragraph I am going to write about learning methodology used by students in many secondary schools in my country.

Memorization is the main and almost the only technique used by teachers to rate the level of students’ performance; therefore, students use memorization to learn and get high marks.

Memorization makes sense for some subjects like Mathematics or English that need to use it frequently but the other subjects like Biology, Literature, Geography, History, Philosophy or Psychology need more analysis, reflection or  experimentation because it helps students to develop their creativity, critical capacity and innovation.

Unfortunately, when students only use memorization at school, studying becomes boring and pointless and they prefer not to do homework or read; in consequence, we have young people without creativity, critical capacity and innovation.  On the other hand, students that want to have high marks spend a lot of time doing homework that does not make sense and memorize without reflecting on what they are studying.

So I think it is necessary to help students find new way of learning to help them change their traditional way of learning. We should remind them of the importance of finding a balance when they are spending their time.
