Activity

Shot of a tennis racket and two tennis balls on a court.

In my childhood my favourite sport was soccer, the most popular sport in my home country. When I went to study at high school founded by the American Presbyterian mission in Congo, I came across something new: I saw two teachers standing either side of a tennis court and hitting the ball to each other with their racquets. They were very happy so that I could feel their joy. From that time, I became a tennis fan and I started to listen to the sports news about all the tennis tournaments around the world.

After my studies at college, I had been hired by local diamond mining company. There were a lot of tennis courts in the company sport center where the workers had free access. I ordered tennis equipment from Belgium as there were no sports store locally.  I took some tennis training and started playing. Tennis helps develop a lot of skills, good for health and wellbeing: concentration, attention, quick judgement and reaction, motion coordination, physical strength, breath, nerve relax, endurance and so on.

It helps fight stress and bad mood while building your body. It helps build strong relationships with people you would never meet otherwise. Ultimately, tennis has become a part of my life. I have recommended it to my children.
